Enclosed space

According to BGR/GUV-R 117-1, an enclosed space or container is defined as being an area in which the worker is exposed to danger due to the confined space within this area or the hazardous substances contained therein.

The employers’ liability insurance associations prescribe the use of fall arrest solutions in containers, silos and other such confined spaces even where the fall distance is relatively small, e.g. when this area can only be accessed using a rope ladder or where soiling of a vertical ladder may cause the user to slip.
