Collective Protection

Generally, collective protection is understood to include devices that prevent falls from occurring, such as barrier chains, roof guardrails, rail systems and scaffolding. These devices serve to protect several individuals simultaneously and should always be implemented where the area to be secured is frequently used.

However, if a workplace or access route is rarely used, or should it prove impossible to install a collective protection system due to structural reasons, it is recommended to use personal fall protection equipment (PPE) instead.
