DIN 4426 - Basic guidelines for planning and realizing fall arrest systems

DIN 4426 (current version issued in December 2013) sets down basic principles for "Equipment for building maintenance - safety requirements for workplaces and accesses - design and execution." This standard, published by the Construction Standards Committee ("NABau"), is to a large part devoted to basic guidelines for planning and realizing fall arrest systems. The standard contains binding core statements with respect to the installation of anchorage devices, such as: "A fall arrest system is required for workplaces on or accesses to a facade where the fall distance is greater than 1.00 m."

DIN 4426 also contains a provision that collective protection - such as the implementation of a guardrail system - should always take precedence over the use of individual PPE.
